Making your Bejant video CV
It's really easy to make a video to upload to your profile. If you're not sure what to do, just follow our simple three step process...
Step one - Grab a camera!
First you need a camera. You can use a stand-alone camera or a mobile phone (providing they're capable of recording video), or a webcam connected directly to your computer.
If you don't have access to your own camera we suggest you either borrow one or buy a simple webcam such as the ones we've suggested below. These days webcams come in all shapes and sizes. And you don't need to pay very much at all!
Step two - Record your video
Now you just need to record your video. When making your video take note of the following points. Don't worry if you don't get it right first time you can always go back and upload another take later after incorporating feedback from your contacts and friends.
Here's a helpful checklist of things to bear in mind before doing your first introductory video...
- Be yourself.
- First impressions count so dress appropriately.
- Check the background, sound and lighting are suitable.
- Look directly at the camera.
- Let your personality shine through and use your voice and body language to make a lasting impression.
- Be confident and introduce yourself at the start of the video and state the University and course you are studying.
- Showcase your skills and tell employers about your achievements.
- Talk about what career opportunities you are looking for.
- Keep your video no more than 2 minutes long.
- Before uploading your video make sure that you sound clear.
Step three - Upload to your profile
If you used a stand-alone camera or a mobile phone follow your manufacturers' instuctions to upload the video you've created to your computer. Mobile devices synchronise with computers in a number of different ways, so use the one that's most appropriate to you. If you've lost or don't have access to your manufacturers' instructions don't panic - you can usually find them on the internet by typing the manufacuters' name and/or the model number into a search engine on your browser.
Once you have your video on your computer, upload it to your profile by clicking on the 'Add New Video' link on your MyProfile page and following the on-screen instructions.
Your video can be uploaded in .wmv, .mov, .mpg, .avi, .mp4, .3gp. formats. Make sure your video is under 2 minutes in length (or 5 minutes if you are a Company). If your video meets these minimum requirements and won't upload, there may be a problem with the video compression you're using. We recommend the .mov (MPEG4) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio.
That's all there is to it!
You can also add more and more videos as you go on. In addition to a simple introduction to yourself you can use video to show examples of your work, record video referalls from previous employers and more! It's entirely up to you!
